Two glossaries to help learn the vocabulary you will see and hear:
TAB 1 - Person-centered language compared to older institutional language. Challenge yourself to listen for these words used by those serving seniors. If they are primarily institutional language, their approach will likely reflect a 'custodial' attitude. If they are primarily using person-centered language, their approaches and attitudes are going to be more compassionate and personalized. Which do you seek for your loved one? Challenge yourself to use the more person-centered vocabulary yourself and you will soon see how it affects how your view of seniors and how you support them.
